A jersey signed by all members of the UK's victorious Chelsea football team and donated by club owner Roman Abramovich was sold through an auction run by the Board. All proceeds are going towards a Union of Jewish Women project for vulnerable children.

This “especially interesting piece of football memorabilia” was sold “for a very respectable sum,” says Zev Krengel,
National Chairman of the SA Jewish Board of Deputies.

“The proceeds will shortly be handed over to the Union of Jewish Women for a project they are running on behalf of vulnerable children,” he adds.

Krengel said that “this brings to fruition one of the last initiatives flowing from our Jewish 2010 World Cup project.

We are gratified, indeed, that it will in due course bring lasting benefits to the underprivileged in our society, providing thereby a meaningful way in which the positive energy generated by the World Cup experience has been harnessed.”

Krengel once again thanked Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramowich “for so generously donating the jersey.”
