At 6pm on Friday evening, a special Shul service with Rabbi Yossy Goldman, Chazan Yudi Cohen and the Sydenham Shul Choir will be followed by a “Tequila & Teiglach” street Brocha.

The event has been sponsored by the Herring family.

Sydenham Shul’s “Friday Night Fever” street parties are incredible.

On the Shul’s website they describe Friday Night Fever as “a Sydenham Shul Spectacular.” They go on to say: “Picture this: Main Street is closed off to traffic. The glorious harmonies of the Sydenham Shul choir escape through the windows of the gorgeous Shul.

"Minutes later, hundreds of people emerge from the Shul to shmooz in the street, nursing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, enjoying soup and perogen or biltong and Black Label" (or, in this Friday’s case, Tequila & Teiglach).

“It’s an overwhelming sight to see some 1500 people celebrating Shabbos in the streets of South Africa,” says the website. There is a teaser for this week’s event, “Watch out for a Special Musical Surprise,” they promise.

If you missed past events, catch the Friday Night Fever this week. All members of the community are welcome.

And there will be R500 in Sandton City shopping vouchers to be won at the Youth Minyan and at Children’s Services.
