Paying tribute to the work done by ORT SA at their annual Consultants’ Breakfast at the prestigious Killarney Country Club this morning, Chief Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein said that the vast majority of the organisation’s activity involved Mitzvah work among the underprivileged.

“This is an important part of the Jewish community’s commitment to development in the new South Africa,” said the Chief.

Thanking the consultants who were being recognised for giving of their time at the event, the Chief said ORT JET (Jewish Entrepreneurial Training) helps self-employed people to earn a living with dignity and honesty, without having to ask for charity.

“The foundation of your work at ORT JET is optimism,” said Goldstein. He said that the organisation worked on problem solving. One can only deal with a problem once one recognises that it exists, he said.

“We can make a difference,” said the Chief, “ORT JET has proven it over five years. It is an organisation based on optimism,” he repeated.

ORT JET has set an example for the entire Jewish community, said Goldstein: “We can do it!”

The SA Jewish community “has the most outstanding track record dealing with adversity,” said Rabbi Goldstein. We are resilient and we are problem solvers.
