Missionary season is here
A word of warning
J-for-J founder "won't be missed"
Jews for Judaism say they are aware of increased missionary activity [Jews for Jesus] in and around Joburg specifically targeting members of our community. “We have been inundated with calls and emails regarding activity in Rosebank, Sandton and Highlands North,” says Darryl Frankel, the Director of Jews for Judaism.
“While we all agree that the actions of these missionaries are abhorrent, their actions themselves are not illegal, and there is little that can be done to prevent them.”
MyShtetl.co.za has had several reports from Shtetlers who have been pounced on while attending the Israeli Film Festival at the Mall in Rosebank. One would assume that this would mean that J-for-Jesus may also prey on members of the community attending the film festival’s forthcoming runs in Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.
Darryl Frankel of Jews for Judaism says “the solution to this problem lies not in attacking these unfortunate souls or in destroying their property, but in strengthening our own bonds to our Yiddishkeit.”
Frankel says that “it is only where we lack in our own faith and belief that these people can be successful. We should not allow ourselves to be led astray by their clever slogans and use of Jewish terminology.”
Jews for Judaism will continue to monitor the situation, says Frankel. “Our trained staff is available to assist individuals and families in crisis. Please notify us of any missionary activity in your area, whether direct or indirect.”

BY THE WAY Moishe Rosen, who founded Jews for Jesus in 1973, died last month in San Francisco. Among those who did not mourn were two members of Jews for Judaism SA. Here is what they told MyShtetl at the time:
Darryl Frankel, the Director of Jews for Judaism:
“Rosen and his organisation have been responsible for the destruction of so many Jewish families,” says. “It was as a response to their tactics that Jews for Judaism was founded.”
Darren Sevitz, Executive Director of the UOS and an active executive at Jews for Judaism:
“He won’t be missed. He built an organisation that resulted in the loss of thousands of Jewish souls.”
